A Bit About Me

Hello Lovely!

I’m Mel, a curl-focused stylist with over two decades of experience, based in the Cedar Valley. I specialize in helping clients embrace and love their natural texture through personalized, inclusive hair care. And if you weren’t born with curls, I can help you with that too.

I also specialize in natural-looking grey coverage. My goal is seamless, dimensional color that blends so effortlessly, my clients often tell me no one even knows they color their hair.

My background, born in El Salvador and raised in Iowa, shapes everything I do. It’s what drives my commitment to celebrating individuality and creating a space where every guest feels welcomed, seen, and cared for.

Since 2002, I’ve combined creativity, education, and leadership to serve my clients while mentoring the next generation of beauty professionals. With a degree in business from the University of Northern Iowa and ongoing advanced training, I bring both artistry and strategy to every salon experience.

Beyond the chair, my mission is to help beauty professionals build thriving, sustainable careers, so strong they have the opportunity to grow into leadership roles at Trends or open businesses of their own. I believe there is more than enough success to go around, and that we rise by lifting each other.

At home, my husband Ryan and I are raising our two boys here in the Cedar Valley. When I’m not in the salon, you’ll find me with my family, volunteering, or getting lost in a good book, or a great conversation about one.
